I’m Franck, a French chef who became a restaurateur, and this is my blog.
Since the age of five, from eating the food prepared by my grandmother and my mother, I quickly understood that eating was not only a basic necessity of survival but also offered great access to pleasure and a strong feeling of satisfaction.
I’m originally from Aix en Provence, but I have lived in Shanghai since 2004. I’ve travelled quite a bit since I graduated from Marseilles’s cooking/catering school back in 1985. The US, Canada, the West Indies, Spain, Morocco, Switzerland, Vietnam, Cuba…these are the countries I’ve lived in, working as always in the restaurant business.
I love rustic country bread with salted raw milk butter, boiled farm eggs, sea urchin, baked beat-root, wood-fire grilled lamb, Napoleon cake, and above all: wines with great drinkability…
I run my own bistro, which I opened in 2007, called Franck Bistrot. Regular customers often ask me where to go out for dinner when traveling. I usually send them a list of my favourite spots. But now I have decided to create a blog based around these favourite places, with some pictures.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
